Guide to playing private servers in WoW for free

World of Warcraft private servers offers gamers a chance to play outside the “real world”, and with those that do not afford the $15/month subscription fee. Thus, many people do consider playing it at no cost. Here is a guide to playing it for free:

The first step on playing is of course, installing the client. You can either: install the normal Wow client and play without all the advantages that Burning Crusade has to offer or download for another couple of hours, and play on a TBC (The Burning Crusade) server with all the fun this implies. The BC installer can be found both on torrent as well as on many mirrors, or you can download a 10-days trial of The Burning Crusade.

Once you have the correct version, simply go to your usual WoW directory folder (C:programfilesworldofwarcraft). Look for an item named Realmlist.wtf and open the file in notepad or wordpad. Edit the text to the same as the server URL in the file points to the pirate server you have selected. If you experience trouble in connection, example is if you get repeated and erroneous login messages even if you know that your user name and password are correct, try editing the config.wtf file in the WTF folder so that the realmlist variable (SET realmlist) is equal to wherever your WoW server is at.

Choosing the best server for you is quite difficult because you have many things to consider. Next, registering an account with the server is very straightforward. Many sites use interfaces that have been constructed for the cause and you can just follow on-screen instructions to register. Other times, the subscription is just a matter of filling out stuff on a small form, no email activation required to get a working account.

Once everything is properly configured – patches, realmlist, account and all, you may begin exploring The World. That’s just easy, right? Have fun!
