Pale Rider: Eastwood Western starts out just fine, the legend of a gun slinger going to the help of some battling miners, however ends up draggy, conceited, and unexciting with so much cloning of Shabe as to be preposterous. Dreamlike film was shot on location in remote Amazon forests; Kinski is perfect as the crazy Aguirre. Cast includes Klaus Kinski, Ruy Guerra, Del Negro, Helena Rojo, Cecilia Rivera, and Peter Berling. (94 minutes, 1972)

The General: One of Keaton’s best silent films, setting comedy contrary to real Civil Battle tale of stolen train, and Union spies. Not as fanciful as other Keaton films, although beautifully finished. Cast includes Buster Keaton, Marion Mack, Glen Cavender, Jim Farley, and Joseph Keaton. (100 minutes, 1984)

Prince of Darkness: The anti-Christ entombs the evil child of Satan in a cannister of a forgotten about L.A. temple. It’s up to pastor Pleasence and the grad students of Prof Wong to tidy up the mess. They must stop the religious sect attempting to free this child named the “Brotherhood of Rest.” Cast includes Donald Pleasence, Lisa Blount, Jameson Parker, Victor Wong, Dennis Dun, Susan Blanchard, Anne Howard and Alice Cooper Panavision. R (110 minutes, 1987)

The Plough and the Stars: Boring, theatrical filmizations of Sean O’Casey’s play with Foster as Irish revolutionary leader and Stanwyck as long-agonizing spouse who prays for his life. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Preston Foster, Barry Fitzgerald, Una O’Connor, Bonita Granville, and Arthur Guards. (78 minutes, 1936)

Holes: Boy from an offbeat family is sent to an odd desert camp where it’s trusted that digging holes will develop one’s character. As he gets to know the other black sheep amid the kids and staff pieces of his life start to come together and make sense. Cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Patricia Arquette, Tim Blake Nelson, Dule Hill, Henry Winkler, Nate Davis, Rick Fox, Scott Plank, Eartha Kitt, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, and Brenden Jefferson. (118 minutes, 2003)

For Keeps: Studious adolescent Ringwald finds that she pregnant, and must swiftly face adult duties. Topic is most beneficial, although the outcome is unsurprising and fake. Tim Kazurinsky coauthored the screenplay. Cast includes Molly Ringwald, Randall Batinkoff, Kenneth Harms, Miriam Flynn, Conchata Ferrell, Sharon Brown, Renee Estevez, and Larry Drake. (98 minutes, 1989)

MacArthur: Intense, look at the legend of the elaborate military chief throughout WW2 and Korean Battle. Peck is phenomenal although film doesn’t hold the punch of Patton. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Dan O’Herlihy, Ed Flanders, Sandy Kenyon, Dick O’Neill, and Craft Fleming. (130 minutes, 1977)
